Most people have better things to do than constantly performing maintenance on their house – no thanks! With Fielders steel cladding, maintenance will barely enter your thoughts because it needs very little upkeep, so homeowners can spend their free time doing fun things, rather than working on their homes.
Where Fielders roof and wall cladding regularly gets washed by rain, it’s unlikely to need any further cleaning – it’s that easy, the only areas that will need a little extra help is where the rain can’t quite reach, such as cladding that’s under the eaves and the underside of eave gutters.
Even then, all that’s needed for these areas is a hose down at least every six months – this will wash off any dirt and keep the surface looking sharp. If you live in coastal areas where there’s salt spray, or near a commercial or industrial area where it’s a bit dirty and dusty, perform a washdown a little more regularly, every three months or so.
If maintenance has been neglected for a while, a bit more elbow grease may be needed to get rid of any muck that’s stuck to the surface of the cladding. It’s important to do this because condensation can be absorbed by the gunk, and this could gradually cause corrosion.
So what’s needed to get your Fielders cladding back into top nick? Simple – wash the surface with a mild solution of pure soap, or a mild non-abrasive kitchen detergent (don’t use solvent type cleaners such as mineral turpentine, kerosene or paint thinners).
After first washing down the surface with a hose, mix the soap or detergent in a bucket of warm water, then use a sponge, soft cloth or soft bristle nylon brush to gently wash away the inground dirt and dust.
Take care not to apply too much pressure when rubbing against the surface because this can cause shiny areas on the metal. Once all the surface has been washed with the soap, give it a good rinse with clean water immediately afterwards to remove any trace of detergent. In the case of stubborn dirt, the repeat the process until you’re happy with the finish.
With a simple maintenance program, your Fielders roof and wall cladding will not only continue to look great, but will last for a very long time.
