In Adelaide’s western suburbs, West Lakes Shore Primary School has undergone a major transformation, one that puts students, sustainability and strong architectural design at the centre of the experience. As part of South Australia’s statewide school upgrade program, this coastal campus is now home to a bold new learning hub that combines flexible learning spaces, calming aesthetics and durable materials fit for the future.

Working closely with DAS Studio and builder McMahon Services, Fielders supplied approx. 400 m² of ARAMAX® structural cladding in COLORBOND® steel colour Shale Grey™, delivering a clean, coastal aesthetic with the durability required for a busy education environment.
Architecture That Reflects Its Setting
The new building design, part of a $5.2 million investment from the SA Government, was inspired by the landscape and community it serves. With a sweeping ARAMAX® roofline and façades that invite natural light, the structure reflects the nearby foreshore while offering a grounded, calm environment for
students and staff.
DAS Studio’s concept focused on creating a flexible and inviting learning environment where children could feel both safe and inspired. The expressive ARAMAX® profile helped deliver that vision, bringing rhythm and repetition to the exterior while forming part of the building’s structural solution.

Why ARAMAX® Was the Right Fit
Designed for strength, span and simplicity, ARAMAX® delivers on all fronts when it comes to education builds:
- Structural Performance: ARAMAX® acts as both cladding and structure,
reducing the need for additional support framing. This made it an efficient
solution for large, open-plan learning areas
- Clear Spanning Capability: With the ability to span up to 20 metres,
ARAMAX® allowed for wide column-free spaces, essential in multi-use
 learning environments.
- Low-Maintenance Durability: In an exposed coastal zone like West Lakes,
weather resistance was critical. The use of COLORBOND® steel ensures
long-term performance and protection, even in salty, corrosive air.
- Visual Impact: The profile’s bold ribbing creates a visually striking finish that
reflects light and shadow, giving the building a contemporary yet grounded
look.- With a double-sided application, the profile delivers a polished appearance from every angle, ensuring the interior and exterior design languages align seamlessly.
 - Built for Students, Designed for Community- The project delivers much more than a new building. It’s a future-focused upgrade that supports contemporary teaching methods, encourages collaboration and provides adaptable spaces for everything from small group learning to community
events.- Through its strong design thinking and thoughtful material selection, the new West Lakes Shore Primary School building creates a link between place, people and potential. - At Fielders, we’re proud to support educational spaces that are built with purpose and to work alongside architects and builders who share that commitment to quality, creativity and community.
