Client: Town of East Fremantle
Architect: Carabiner
Builder: Cooper & Oxley
Installer: Roofeze
The East Fremantle Oval precinct $34 million redevelopment marks a major investment in community infrastructure, transforming a historically significant Western Australia sporting ground into a state-of-the-art facility for local clubs, schools and public use.
Designed by Carabiner, built by Cooper & Oxley and installed by Roofeze, the redevelopment delivers a new grandstand, changerooms, social spaces, administration areas and multi-use facilities, all designed with longevity, usability and cost-efficiency in mind. To meet the demands of this complex brief, a tailored steel solution was developed featuring Fielders KingKlip®, Prominence® and Spanform™.
Drawing inspiration from the nearby Swan River, the building’s curved form flows around the activity zones it supports, with materials chosen to reveal depth, movement and a strong connection to place.
Steel profiles chosen for form, function and flexibility
Located just a few kilometres from Fremantle’s coastline, the sporting complex required roofing and cladding materials to withstand harsh environmental conditions while maintaining a refined architectural finish.
Several Fielders profiles were selected across roofing and walling applications to meet these requirements:
- KingKlip®
- Concealed-fix profile to reduce risk of water ingress
- Wide cover and strong spanning capacity for large structural areas
- Excellent weather resistance, ideal for coastal environments
- Quick installation to support project timelines.
- Prominence®
- Distinct vertical profile with flat pans and sharp ribs
- Delivers clean architectural lines suited to public-facing facades
- Low-maintenance surface finish for long-term use.
- Spanform™
- Adaptable profile used across selected roofing and walling areas
- Ideal for functional zones requiring durable performance
- Supports cohesive design transitions between materials.
This combination of profiles allowed the team to match visual intent with long-term functional performance.
A shared space with community at its core
The vision for the precinct extended well beyond football. While the site remains the home ground to West Australian Football League team East Fremantle, the upgraded facility is designed to serve a much broader community — with schools, local clubs and recreational users all factored into the long-term design strategy by the town of East Fremantle.
Delivering on that vision required materials that were reliable, low-maintenance and built for everyday wear. The combination of KingKlip®, Prominence® and Spanform™ provided the flexibility needed to meet those functional demands while also achieving a crisp, modern appearance that aligns with the surrounding context.
Bringing design, build and install together
With multiple stakeholders and a tight program, product performance was only part of the equation — installation support, delivery responsiveness and supply reliability were just as critical to the success of the build.
Fielders worked closely with Roofeze throughout the detailing and install stages to ensure the profiles met both the architect’s design requirements and the installer’s practical needs. This partnership approach helped simplify on-site coordination and maintain project momentum.
