Which to choose – Fielders® cladding manufactured from COLORBOND® steel or COLORBOND® Ultra steel?

Fielders® roof and wall cladding profiles made from COLORBOND® steel, have been proven in tough Australian conditions and applications for well over 50 years. Our country’s diverse weather and geographic conditions range from cold and snowy winters, to searing desert temperatures through to salty beach environments – this means that our building materials must be tough and versatile.

In most situations the COLORBOND® steel from which Fielders profiles are manufactured has these conditions well and truly covered. It has a lot of built-in protection.

COLORBOND® steel is made in Australia by BlueScope. The steel base is manufactured to meet applicable Australian Standards, ensuring it meets grade and strength requirements. The steel base is then coated with BlueScope’s industry leading metallic coating incorporating Active® technology, which provides enhanced corrosion resistance.

A thin pretreatment layer is then applied to the steel to optimise the adhesion of further coatings. A corrosion inhibitive primer is then baked onto the surface, and finally the specially developed exterior grade topcoat paint is applied and baked on, providing a finish that resists chipping, flaking and blistering

The combined protection provided by this multi-layer coating system ensures Fielders roofing profiles manufactured from standard COLORBOND® steel are ideal for a wide range of conditions including in BAL-FZ (Bushfire Attack Level – Flame Zone) areas and even near-marine locations (201m-400m distance from breaking surf; 101m-200m distance from calm marine areas).

COLORBOND® Ultra steel for extra protection

For homes in even more challenging locations, COLORBOND® Ultra steel is recommended.

COLORBOND® Ultra steel is specially designed for severe coastal environments (100m-200m from breaking surf; 0m-100m from calm marine areas) and for industrial locations, where it’s recommended for homes within 100m to 200m from the source of industrial fumes and/or particulate fallout.

The extra protection is achieved from a more corrosion-resistant metallic alloy coating of AM150. AM refers to the aluminium/zinc/magnesium alloy that makes up the composition of the coating, while the 150 refers to the minimum grams of coating per square metre.

Protection for even more aggressive environments

For even more aggressive environments some Fielders® products are available manufactured from SUPERDURA® Stainless steel. Speak to your Fielders representative for more details.
