1. “Can I build a carport to my site’s boundaries?”
If you’re lucky enough to have the space, maximising the size of your carport to fit two vehicles or provide extra clearance when getting in and out of your car makes sense. But building to your site’s boundaries will most likely lead to multiple council regulations.
“A carport has less restrictions than something like a verandah, for example,” Michelle says. “But we may need to apply for a few dispensations with council.” One of the most common requests the team is asked relates to widening the width of the driveway to allow more space getting in and out of your vehicle. “We look after all of this – and will apply for all necessary dispensations with council, regardless of whether the concerns relate to fire regulations or length on boundary.”
2. “Any advice for a great carport build?”
Long before a builder arrives on-site, think long-term about the purpose of your carport “Ask yourself questions like whether it’s for two, or maybe four cars down the track. Or, do you want to add gates or roller doors in future?” By asking these questions early on, your dealer can incorporate the right design for the end result, making these later additions a breeze.
It’s also simple to match your carport to your home, or provide extra protection through clever accessory choices. “We can provide things like additional posts, a COLORBOND façade on the front of your carport to match the house, or slat screening to the side boundaries to keep the weather out,” Michelle says. “These can all be easily attached to our Fielders Centenary carport.”
